Jakarta, sketsindonews – Konvensi kerangka kerja pengendalian tembakau atau “Framework Convention on Tobacco Control” (FCTC) dirancang oleh World Health Organization (WHO) pada 2003 dengan tujuan utama untuk mengendalikan produksi tembakau dunia guna melindungi generasi saat ini dan yang akan datang dari efek merusak konsumsi tembakau pada kesehatan, sosial, lingkungan, dan ekonomi.
Konvensi tersebut juga bermaksud membatasi penggunaan tembakau dalam bentuk apapun. Indonesia adalah salah satu negara yang tidak menandatangani dan belum melakukan aksesi FCTC tersebut. Berdasarkan data WHO, sampai dengan bulan Juli 2013, sejumlah 177 negara telah meratifikasi dan mengaksesi FCTC, mewakili 87,9 persen populasi dunia. Pada tahun 2015, jumlah negara yang meratifikasi dan mengaksesi FCTC bertambah menjadi 180 negara, yang mewakili 90 persen populasi dunia.
Oleh karena itu, Presiden Joko Widodo pada Selasa 14 Juni 2016 memimpin rapat terbatas untuk membahas permasalahan tersebut. Dalam pengantarnya, Presiden Joko Widodo mengingatkan kepada para menteri terkait untuk melihat kepentingan nasional terlebih dahulu dan melihat berbagai aspek sebelum mengambil keputusan. Dalam hal ini, Presiden tidak ingin Indonesia hanya sekedar mengekor negara lainnya, tanpa berpikir mengenai solusi yang seimbang antara kepentingan generasi muda ke depan, dengan kelangsungan hidup para petani tembakau saat ini.
